Fun fact: The Pop-Up Care Shop was founded by two writers! We actually met at a conference for writers and creatives, and for years we’ve wanted to bring that part of our lives into our work. We’re so excited to finally introduce The Write Kind of Care—a fundraiser workshop series featuring virtual and in-person writing experiences centered on community care.
On Saturday, July 25, we’re launching the series with our first workshop: Writing as Care. In this virtual workshop, we’ll explore the many ways writing can help us care for ourselves and our communities. Together, we’ll read excerpts from published poems, essays, and articles, then create our own pieces through guided writing prompts.
Whether you’re a seasoned writer or simply looking for a new way to express yourself, you’re welcome here. This will be a low-pressure, intimate space designed for meaningful conversation, creativity, and connection.
The workshop will be led by our co-founder, published author, and writer Kadia Blagrove. For more than a decade, Kadia has used the power of storytelling to help brands, artists, and professionals connect with their audiences. Her work has been featured in HuffPost, Jezebel, Cosmopolitan, Bustle, Complex, and more.

As June comes to a close, we’ve found ourselves reflecting on one simple truth that has guided our work since day one:
Care is a human right.
Whether we’re collecting donations, planning our next Care Shop, or partnering with organizations that serve our communities, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and cared for with dignity and choice.
This month gave us several opportunities to reflect on what Care looks like in all of its forms:
For Caribbean American Heritage Month, our Co-Founders, Kadia Blagrove and Kydee Williams shared how their Caribbean backgrounds have shaped the heart of The Pop-Up Care Shop. Growing up in Jamaican families, care wasn’t just something they talked about, it was something they lived and experienced.
Juneteenth reminded us that freedom is about more than a moment in history. It’s also about access, opportunity, dignity, and ensuring every person has the resources to move forward.
Pride Month reaffirmed something we believe deeply…Care has no conditions. Every person deserves to be treated with respect, welcomed with compassion, and given the opportunity to choose what they need.
Care serves as the foundation of The Pop-Up Care Shop and inspires our commitment to creating dignified, choice-centered experiences for the communities we serve.
As we enter the second half of the year, we’re filled with gratitude for each of you. Whether you’ve donated, volunteered, shared our posts, attended an event, or simply encouraged our work, you’ve helped make this mission possible.

Last month, The Pop-Up Care Shop hosted a Mother’s Day event for the parents of Freedom House, a domestic violence shelter, specifically focused on individuals with disabilities. These residents are navigating unimaginable challenges while courageously rebuilding their lives. Many are escaping abusive situations while also managing disabilities. They are carrying the weight of survival while still showing up for their children, families, and themselves each day.
We were deeply intentional about how we crafted this experience. Our goal was simple: to pour into them with care and to create a space where they could feel cared for, celebrated, creative, and seen not for what they have endured, but for who they are.
Together, we created handmade sugar scrubs, designed beautiful floral arrangements, made heartfelt cards, and shared words of motivation and encouragement in hopes of uplifting every woman in the room.
What continues to stay with us most is this: despite everything they have been through, beauty still bloomed.
We saw it in every floral arrangement they thoughtfully created. We saw it in their creativity, their intention, their laughter, and the love they poured into each detail. Their resilience reminded us that even in the hardest seasons, creativity, joy, and beauty can still exist.
This event was more than an afternoon of activities, it was a reminder of the power of community, care, and creating spaces where women feel safe enough to simply breathe.
As we continue our work, we remain committed to creating experiences rooted in dignity, choice, healing, and hope.

Together, they forge resilience, confidence, and the inner fighter that refuses to live life passively the fighter who rises again and again for what she believes in. Deborah Koenigsberger
Hearts of Gold, Founder & CEO
Deborah Koenigsberger is the Founder and CEO of Hearts of Gold, a New York City-based nonprofit that has positively impacted over 45,000 homeless and low-income single mothers and their children since its inception in 1994. Inspired by a personal encounter with a young homeless mother and her 3-year-old daughter—who were sleeping in a cardboard box in Madison Square Park at the time—as well as by the song “Take the Time Out” by her idol and musical genius Stevie Wonder, and driven by her belief in what’s possible, Deborah founded an organization that empowers women to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness through education, job training, and crisis support. Before she began her philanthropic work, she built a successful career in fashion first as a model, then as a stylist. In tandem with her charitable work, she owns and runs Noir et Blanc, her French-themed women’s boutique in Manhattan’s NoMad/Flatiron district, since 1989. A graduate of NYU, Deborah speaks French, German, and Italian. She is a proud wife and mother of two boys who are her pride and joy. Her life’s work is centered on reimagining futures and creating lasting change—something she has been doing, one family at a time, for more than 31 years.
Tiffany Turner
Soles4Souls, Vice President of Outreach
Tiffany Turner has been a dedicated leader with Soles4Souls since 2011, driven by a passion to ensure shoes find their way onto the feet of those who need them most. As Vice President of Outreach, she leads the organization’s 4Relief and 4EveryKid programs, building meaningful partnerships and advancing global impact with compassion, strategy, and purpose. Now in its fifth year, 4EveryKid has distributed more than 530,000 pairs of new shoes through a network of 500 community partners serving children across all 50 U.S. states and Canada — helping remove barriers to school attendance, confidence, and opportunity. A lifelong advocate for service, Tiffany travels extensively to create impactful events that connect communities and bring the Soles4Souls mission to life in tangible ways. Her journey with the organization began in 2008 after headlining a benefit concert in Nashville and volunteering at a local shoe distribution — an experience that sparked a lasting commitment to the cause. Originally from Paxville, South Carolina, Tiffany holds a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies from North Greenville University. She and her husband, Lee, live in Nashville with their beloved fur babies. In their spare time, they enjoy making music together.
Carmen Reyes
WISDOM, Founder
“As a licensed social worker, I have spent over two decades working with children, youth, women, and families in various capacities from parent coordinator to mental health provider, community organizer and founder of a non-profit – WISDOM Develops – that supports mothers in reconnecting with themselves. I have expanded my work to include community and staff members. A common theme emerges throughout my work: those caring for children are also managing their own lives, but who is caring for them? This is where I come in. I work to support individuals in reconnecting with themselves while thriving in their roles and responsibilities. My most fulfilling role has been as a care giver to my three children and to my twin sister’s daughters who I took guardianship of after her passing. I believe caregiving, in any capacity, is a selfless act, and it does not mean that we have to forget ourselves. All my work is aimed at putting YOU back into the equation of your own life.”

On Saturday, May 10th, we’ll be participating in CSS’s Community School Forum, where we’ll be distributing free toiletries to local families. We’re currently collecting essentials like soap, detergent, baby wipes, lotion, cleaning products, and more.
