After two years of serving shelters and organizations in The Bronx, The Pop-Up Care Shop is expanding our reach to Brooklyn! From the very start, we’ve had a mission to reach across all boroughs (and eventually the country— one day international!) and are very grateful for the opportunity to branch out. This year we will be serving a Brooklyn-based shelter called CAMBA Broadway House Women’s Shelter.
Beyond location, we were also interested in expanding our reach to a different demographic. In one of our meetings, we discussed the sad increase of elderly homeless individuals in NYC. We really wanted to target older women this year and thankfully the stars aligned for us to do just that! Empress Varnado, the founder of BBDigital and amazing friend of TPUCS (she collected feminine hygiene products for our first shop), reached out to collaborate again for our upcoming shop. She put us in contact with CAMBA Broadway House Women’s Shelter, which happens to serve mostly female clients ages 60 and older, and the rest is soon to be history!
On December 8th, we will be serving the ladies of Broadway House with a holiday boutique of free clothes. BBDigital will be collecting feminine hygiene products (including adult diapers and toiletries) and we will be collecting clothing and brand new undergarments. Also joining us this year is designer, educator, and author Lesley Ware, who will host a fun fashion workshop for the ladies and who sponsored the venue for our launch event back in 2016. So it’s truly a reunion of sorts this year!
We’re currently seeking volunteers and donations to help make this a special event! See below for details:
